Nature Live Cams

Contact

Write to info@naturelivecams.com. It is the only address Nature Live Cams uses, and a person reads it — there is no form and no ticket number. We answer everything, usually the same day, in English or Spanish.

A cam is not working

Check first whether the page already says so. Every cam here is tested automatically several times a day, and when one stops we mark it as off air, say when it was last seen, and offer the nearest volcanoes that are live. Many come back on their own within a few hours, and a cam that is only paused stays on the site rather than being removed.

If the cam works on its owner's own page but not here, that one is ours. Tell us which page you were on and which browser you used, and we will fix it.

Something on a page is wrong

Local time, sunrise and sunset, cloud forecast and nearby earthquakes are all calculated from the coordinates we hold for each volcano, so an error in any of them usually starts there. Alert levels come straight from the responsible observatory and carry the time they were last read.

The written guides are ours, and so are any mistakes in them. If a date, an elevation or a description is wrong or has gone stale, tell us and we will correct it. Photo credits too: the pictures come from Wikimedia Commons under free licences, and if you are the author of one and the credit is wrong, we will fix it the same week.

Suggesting a cam

Send us the address of the page where the cam can be seen. Anything pointed at a volcano is of interest, anywhere in the world, whether it belongs to an observatory, a town hall, a broadcaster or a person. What it needs:

  • Published openly by whoever runs it, with no password.
  • Embeddable or linkable without breaking their terms of use.
  • Broadcasting reasonably continuously, not for a few days a year.

If it does not fit we will tell you why. Either way we record it, because a cam that cannot be used today sometimes can later — that register is how most of the 210 cams on the site were found.

We are also glad to hear about observatories we have missed. Several countries with active volcanoes are not on the site yet simply because we have not found a public camera in them.

If you run a cam

Everything about how your camera appears here, and how to have it added, changed, credited differently or taken down, is on the page for camera owners. A takedown request does not wait in a queue: it is the first thing we deal with.

What we cannot do

The cameras are not ours. We cannot move them, turn them, zoom in, improve the picture or repair one that is broken — that is for whoever owns it, and their link is next to every image.

We are also not a monitoring agency or an emergency service, and we never predict eruptions. For official warnings, use the observatory named on each volcano's page: they are the people who set the alert levels, and their site is linked from ours.

Press and reuse

For press enquiries, write to the same address. You are welcome to link to any page, and to quote a sentence or two with a link back. The images belong to the cameras' owners, so ask them before reusing a picture. What we compile ourselves — which volcanoes are erupting, which have a clear view — may be quoted with a credit to Nature Live Cams.

The legal details of the site are in the legal notice, and what we do with data is in the privacy policy.
