Volcanoes erupting now
This page lists the volcanoes on this site that are erupting or showing unrest right now, with their live cams. It updates on its own every 30 minutes.
13 volcanoes with cams on this site are erupting right now: Kīlauea, Great Sitkin, Popocatépetl, Volcán de Fuego, Etna, Stromboli, plus seven more. Whakaari / White Island and Ruapehu are restless: unrest has been reported, but no eruption. The sky is clear over Stromboli, Mayon and Kanlaon, so those cams have the best view at the moment. The latest weekly report from the Smithsonian and the USGS (8–14 October 2026) lists 14 more volcanoes with activity that have no cam here yet.
Latest weekly report: 8–14 October 2026. Official alert levels are checked every 30 minutes.

How we decide what is erupting
We don’t make that call ourselves. A volcano appears here when at least one of these sources says so:
- The Smithsonian/USGS Weekly Volcanic Activity Report. Every Wednesday the Smithsonian’s Global Volcanism Program and the USGS publish a summary of the volcanoes that erupted or showed unrest during the previous week, worldwide. Volcanoes listed with eruptive activity show as erupting; those listed with unrest show as restless.
- USGS alert levels for volcanoes in the United States. A Warning means an eruption is under way or imminent, so we show it as erupting. Watch and Advisory mean elevated unrest, shown as restless.
- GeoNet Volcanic Alert Levels in New Zealand. Levels 1 and 2 show as restless, and level 3 or higher as erupting.
Alert levels and reports can lag behind what you see on a cam, and a volcano can be erupting while clouds hide it completely. For safety decisions, always follow the observatory in charge and local authorities.
Volcanoes without a cam here
The list at the end of the page comes straight from the weekly report and includes volcanoes that don’t have a live cam on this site yet. It is a good snapshot of how many volcanoes are active on any given week: usually somewhere between 15 and 30.
