Badan Geologi (Indonesia) volcano cams
Indonesia’s Geological Agency, home of the volcano monitoring center that watches Merapi and the country’s other active volcanoes.
Badan Geologi, the Geological Agency of Indonesia, watches the largest group of active volcanoes in the world: 127 of them, spread over an archipelago of more than 17,000 islands. Its volcanology centre, PVMBG, runs observation posts at the foot of the most dangerous ones, staffed day and night, and sets the alert levels that decide when villages are evacuated.
Merapi, on Java, is the volcano it watches most closely. Its observatory in Yogyakarta keeps cameras and instruments pointed at the summit lava dome, because a collapse of that dome sends pyroclastic flows towards villages a few kilometres downslope, as happened in 2010.
The agency shares some of those views live. On this site, its stream appears on the Merapi page, alongside a second camera from another operator, so you can see the dome from more than one angle.
