KYT Kagoshima Yomiuri Television live cam
Kagoshima broadcaster that streams Shinmoedake and Sakurajima.
KYT, Kagoshima Yomiuri Telecasting, is one of the commercial television stations of Kagoshima Prefecture, in southern Kyushu. Its patch takes in two of the most active volcanoes in Japan: Sakurajima, across the bay from the prefectural capital, and the Kirishima range inland to the north.
The camera on this site is on Kirishima, pointed at the crater of Shinmoedake. That crater put on the most widely filmed Japanese eruption of recent decades in 2011, throwing ash over several prefectures and breaking windows in the towns below, and it erupted again in 2018. Between eruptions it steams quietly and the surrounding hot spring resorts carry on as usual.
The station keeps the stream running continuously, which makes it one of the few ways to look at Shinmoedake without waiting for the official image to refresh.
