Servicio Geológico Colombiano volcano cams
Colombia’s geological survey, which monitors the country’s volcanoes from observatories in Manizales, Popayán and Pasto.
The Servicio Geológico Colombiano is the national body that studies the ground beneath Colombia, from mineral resources to earthquakes and volcanoes. It runs three volcano observatories, in Manizales, Popayán and Pasto, which between them watch the volcanoes of the Central and Southern ranges of the Andes.
Its work changed after 1985, when a small eruption of Nevado del Ruiz melted part of its glaciers and the resulting mudflows buried the town of Armero, killing more than 23,000 people. The monitoring network built since then is one of the most complete in Latin America, and the warnings it issues are followed closely by the towns in the valleys below.
The survey streams its cameras live and publishes regular bulletins. On this site its stream appears on the Nevado del Ruiz page, and the alert level shown there comes from its reports.
