SolfataraNews live cam

SolfataraNews is a local news channel that follows what happens in the Campi Flegrei, the caldera west of Naples where the ground has been slowly rising for years. It is not an institution and does not issue warnings; what it does is keep a camera running on the part of the caldera that people can actually see changing.

That part is Pisciarelli, on the flank of the Solfatara crater, where steam vents from the ground at high temperature and the mud pool below the vents has grown and moved within living memory. Anyone in Naples can tell how the field is behaving on a given day by looking at how much steam it is making.

The stream is unusual in one respect: beside the picture it runs a live seismogram, so a tremor shows up on the trace at the same moment as anything visible in the frame. It is one of the few public cameras anywhere that puts the two together.
