AEMET Izaña cameras

The Spanish State Meteorological Agency’s research center at 2,373 m (7,785 ft) on Tenerife, next to Teide National Park.

AEMET, the State Meteorological Agency of Spain, runs the Izaña Atmospheric Research Centre on a ridge in Tenerife at 2,373 m (7,785 ft), above the layer of cloud that the trade winds pile against the island. Founded in 1916, it is one of the oldest high-mountain observatories in the world and part of the World Meteorological Organization's Global Atmosphere Watch, measuring greenhouse gases, dust from the Sahara, ozone and solar radiation.

Its cameras take a picture every few minutes and publish it openly. One looks west to the peak of Teide across the caldera of Las Cañadas; the others face north over the Orotava valley and east over Güímar, where the sun comes up over the clouds.

Because of where they are, these cameras show something most webcams cannot: the sea of clouds seen from above, with only the highest peaks of Tenerife and, on clear days, the neighbouring islands rising out of it.
