mbl.is eruption cams

News site of the Icelandic newspaper Morgunblaðið.

mbl.is is the website of Morgunblaðið, one of Iceland's oldest newspapers. Like the country's broadcasters, it puts cameras in front of eruptions and streams them live and free, with no commentary: just the fissure, the lava and the weather.

Its cameras have followed the eruptions on the Reykjanes Peninsula since they began in 2021, first at Fagradalsfjall and later along the Sundhnúkur crater row near Grindavík. On a quiet night the stream is a black hillside; when a fissure opens, it becomes one of the best seats in the world.

On this site the stream appears on the Reykjanes page. As with any news camera, it moves or stops when the story does, so the page also carries fixed cameras that keep watching the area between eruptions.
