Windy.com webcams

Windy.com is a weather platform, best known for its animated maps of wind, rain and cloud forecasts. Alongside the forecasts it runs one of the largest webcam networks on the internet: cameras from ski resorts, town halls, harbours, hotels and private owners, who choose to share their images there.

Windy keeps the latest image of each camera and a time-lapse of the last 24 hours, and lets other sites show them through its player and its API. That is how the cams on this page appear here: we ask Windy every 30 minutes whether each camera is still active, the page shows the camera's current image straight from Windy, and pressing play opens Windy's own player.

These cameras fill gaps that observatories leave. Volcán de Colima in Mexico reaches this site only through Windy, and Windy adds extra views of Popocatépetl, Fuego, Etna, Mauna Kea, Mount Tokachi, Eyjafjallajökull and La Palma. Where Windy shares a camera whose owner we can show directly, such as the summit of Haleakalā or the rim of Crater Lake, the owner's live image comes first and Windy's 24-hour time-lapse sits behind it.
